Five years ago, the first hole was dug for a True North Custom Homes project. That was October 2020 - before we had a logo people recognized around Lincoln, before Onyx Collective existed, before we'd built a single one of the 49 homes now standing because of this team. We were small, scrappy, and betting everything on the idea that Lincoln deserved a custom home builder who actually showed up.

This June, we got to celebrate how far that bet has taken us - with a brand-new office at 8621 Maddox Dr, at 84th and Van Dorn, and an open house that brought nearly 300 people through our front doors.

A Building We Could Only Have Built at Year Five

We didn't just want a place to answer emails. We wanted a space that is the pitch — walk in the door, and you're standing inside proof of what we can build for you. Every detail in this office is something a client could put in their own home: soaring ceilings, tray ceilings, custom built-in shelving, hand-detailed trim work, a three-sided fireplace, statement stonework, and the kind of featured appliances that make a kitchen a gathering place instead of just a room.

The kitchen alone tells the story. It's not a break room — it's a working showroom, with a color-drenched island, a floating wood-slat ceiling, and finishes we've pulled straight from real client projects.

Down the hall, our conference room does double duty as a gallery of the homes that got us here, and even our lounge - yes, we have a cigar lounge - reflects the same obsession with craftsmanship and detail that goes into every True North build.

Five Years, By the Numbers

It's easy to lose track of growth when you're living it day to day, so here's what the last five years actually look like on paper:



• 49 homes built, totaling 228,536 finished square feet
• 2025 was our biggest year yet, averaging 65,578 square feet in production
• Production jumped from an average of 44,745 sq ft (2022–2024) to 62,825 sq ft — an 18,080 sq ft increase in a single year
• Our average custom home now runs 7,464 finished square feet
• We've grown to work with 128 subcontractors and vendors
• In November 2023, we hit 10 people on staff — a real team, not just a name
• We've moved offices twice — and this one is the one we built to stay in
• We launched Onyx Collective, our in-house design studio, to help clients shape every detail of their home from the ground up
• Our parade houses drew an average of 200 visitors per weekend day
• And our favorite stat: the Nebraska State Capitol has 365 steps to its observation deck. Between our completed homes (258 steps) and homes currently in production (293 steps), we've now built 551 steps — 186 more than the Capitol has. We've also got two homes in production wider than a blue whale, each topping 100 feet across.

Here's to the Next Five

A new office and an anniversary are good excuses for a party, but they're really just markers. What matters is what got us here: clients who trusted us with their most important investment, subcontractors who show up and do it right, and a team that's grown from a handful of people to a real company without losing what made us True North in the first place.
