Exploring Lincoln’s History: Robber’s Cave

As recommended by our own Teghan Metcalf, Robber’s Cave is a must-visit destination. Nestled on the southwest side of Lincoln, this historic spot is steeped in fascinating stories. From its use in the Underground Railroad to being the site of Lincoln’s first brewery, Robber’s Cave has played a pivotal role in shaping the city’s history.

In 2020, it received national recognition as a National Historic Place by the National Register. And if you visit during the holidays, you’ll get to experience its transformation into the Miracle Bar, a cozy pop-up bar that adds a festive touch to this already charming site. As Teghan said, “Robber’s Cave is a little place that made Lincoln what it is today,” and we couldn’t agree more!

A Blossoming Legacy: The Sunken Gardens

Another gem we’re proud to recommend is the Sunken Gardens, a serene and picturesque escape just a short walk from downtown Lincoln. This beautifully curated garden has a rich history of transformation. Originally a landfill on the city’s outskirts, it was turned into a park during the Great Depression, providing much-needed jobs for the community at the time.

What makes the Sunken Gardens truly unique is its ever-changing themes, ensuring there’s always something new to discover. Last year’s theme, “Golden Hours,” perfectly captured the enchanting beauty of this space. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, this landmark offers a tranquil retreat and a glimpse into Lincoln’s resilient spirit.
